This was it, this was the first step into an establishment of higher learning and power. Now if he could only move his feet to actually take a step and begin his new life in his new boarding school. Looking back he no longer had his mom waving goodbye to him each and everyday like he did in middle school. He no longer had his baby fat, yes a lot had happened over the summer though was it enough to be accepted by his peers and older seniors...and what was worse then seniors but..college kids. He cringed at the very thought, oh goodness what was he getting himself into.
Swallowing whatever pride he once had as an 8th grader he took that one large step which felt like an eternity to take. Gulping to himself he entered the halls. So far so good, to his left was the main office, to his right the guidance office. Creeping into the locker hallways with a schedule held tight in one hand, a hefty textbook that he had ordered over the summer in the other. His backpack was seemingly light for the first day. His feet scuffed against this huge new school, all of the lockers were taller then him despite the fact that he was taller then most of the people his age. His eyes were glued to his schedule, occasionally glancing up at the lockers to make sure he didn't pass his own. Though he was left vulnerable when the bell rang for the next class to begin.
He gulped watching kids twice his size tower over him running through the halls nearly trampling him in the process as the last of the college and high school kids scurried into their classes only he was left, the young 13 year old plucked fresh out of middle school laying on the ground with dirt covering his brand new suit and horribly done tie. "Gosh.." He groaned, dusting off his backpack and pushing himself to his feet. "There sure are a lot of kids in this school, with big feet." He thought out loud dusting himself off. It was then that it hit him..he was in high school, HIGH SCHOOL
"Oh Gosh I don't think I'm cut out for this..." He whimpered feebly to himself, leaning up against one of the lockers he frowned feeling dizzy and light headed. "I think I'm going to go to the nurse..if only I knew where her office was....where...was the main office again?" He pondered to himself scratching his head trying to think where to go. Clinging onto his schedule for dear life he kept himself close to the locker in the corner shuddering; his first day of school and already he felt like a small animal; prey in a sea full of predators.

The bell had rang and the class had emptied, but one girl remained. Pencil moving rapidly over her paper as she continued to write. She wouldn't stop, not until she was finished. Even as the next class filled into the room she still refused to budge. Just a few more minutes, only a couple lines left. As her pencil scratched on the paper a smile crept over her lips. Perfect. A brand new song. It had come so quickly as she sat in class, suddenly coming into her head as her teacher spoke about some inventor of something. She hadn't been paying attention to her teacher, she was too into her writing.
Finished. A small sigh escaped the girl's lips as she placed her pencil away and then closed her notebook. Her head lifted and she laughed softly as she noticed all the people sitting there staring at her. She slipped her books into her shoulder bag and stood quickly. "Sorry" she said softly. She slipped her hat on and made her way to the front of the room with a small grin. She nodded her head to the teacher and then opened the door and slipped into the hallway. She gently closed the door behind her and then looked down the hall.
Her brow quickly raised as she saw a tiny young boy dusting himself off. Her smile softened and she fixed her bag on her shoulder. Moving away from the classroom and down the hall she caught a look on the boy's face. He looked frightened and hurt. She picked up her pace a bit and moved towards the boy as he cringed in the corner of the lockers. "Hey..are you ok?" she called to him. She slowly walked towards him and gave him a warm smile as she stepped up to him.

His head turned hearing clicks of heels down the hall. His brow furrowed slightly though he kept himself quiet. It was thankful enough that he had orientation the first day so even if he didn't go it wasn't his fault. How was he supposed to know where the auditorium was if he didn't even know where the main office was anymore? Gosh sometimes he questioned the higher learning and their 'brilliant plans'. Though he was relieved to know it wasn't a teacher clamoring up the halls; how was he going to explain that he didn't even know where he was supposed to be right now? It would be very difficult.
Rubbing his eyes softly he lifted himself up as she called to him. Dusting off his jeans he sighed. "Well to tell you the truth I was a lot better before stepping into this building, now I feel like I've been stepped all over...I guess because I have." He moved his frail arm against the back of his neck scratching it nervously. A meek smile crept onto his lips noticing how warm and friendly her grin was. "I'm uh..Julian, new here..." He blinked harshly; what exactly else was he supposed to say? His hand gripped against his opposing forearm as he gnawed on the gums of his lip.
He wondered why this girl was so late to class; but then again he was relieved to know at least someone cared. He quickly scanned down his clothes noticing how filthy they were. Well that wasn't good; when he came to school today he was bright eyed and bushy tailed, clean clothes and neatly piled backpack and papers. Now he looked like he spent the last week in a dirt filled trashcan with footprints and dirt covering his brand new suit. He sighed. messing up his tie more as he tried to get the more difficult dirt off his sleeve he sighed with little success.

A small smile spread over her lips as she stood infront of the small boy. It was obvious that he had been in the middle of the hall when classes had let out. Never a good idea if you don't want to get pushed around. "People in this place can be jerks" she said as she looked at the dust and footprints all over his suit. "I'm Roxy..been here all my life" she said with a smirk. She fixed her shoulder bag and looked over the boy again. "A little dressed up for school, aren't you?" she asked with a raise of her brow. He couldn't be more then 14 with a small frame and soft voice like his.
She couln't hold back the grin as he tried to brush off the dirt from his suit. "It's not going to come off that easily" she told him. She ran her fingers through her brown hair and glanced around the halls. With a shake of her head she returned her attention to the boy before her. "We should probably get you to your class. Your missing all of your orientation. Besides it's not safe just standing around in the halls. You get caught by a teacher and they give you a detention.." she said, trailing off. "Like it's such a big deal to be in the halls after class" she rolled her eyes and then tugged on her bag again. "So do you have a schedule?" she asked him.
Normally she didn't care what happened to the freshman. If they got trampled it was their own fault. But this boy seemed different, he reminded her of her cousin. A tiny boy who only wanted to fit in and be accepted. With a small sigh she realized that she was going to put this kid's safety into her own hands. She wasn't going to let him be treated the way her cousin had. She would make sure that he never was abused or bullied by the older kids at this school.

He nodded as she told him how people could be. Yea he knew all about the labels of high school but he was never prepared for everyone of an upperclassman to be a jerk. He smiled when she introduced herself, Roxy? What an interesting name. Though he had to look down once more when she asked if he was dressed up. "Oh yea..I guess I am." He shrugged chuckling faintly. "But then again I always wore a suit to my first day of school...and sneakers." He laughed pulling his pants up slightly revealing his worn out navy shoes. Though he pushed them back down hiding his navy blue shoes underneath his large baggy dress pants.
He sighed softly not denying that he couldn't get the dirt off his suit. "Yea I know.." He shrugged, picking up his backpack and slinging it over his back. He nodded "Well see I was looking for my locker and going to my class when I realized I didn't really know where anything was." He admitted with a faint laugh rubbing his eyes. "Detention?" He asked somewhat curious; he'd heard of it but never got it- then again in his middle school they didn't stalk the halls like the girl described in this school. When she asked if he had a schedule he gasped softly and dug into his pocket; his schedule now crinkled and ruined he handed it to Roxy pushing his hand into his pocket.

She smiled as he said he always wore a suit to his first day of school. She glanced down as he shower her his sneakers and she giggled softly. "Very nice match" she joked. She couldn't understand why he would want to wear a suit to school but it was his outfit. "Word of advice..wear more comfortable clothes from now on" she said with a warm smile "Stuff that won't be so bad if you get a bit dirty" she said. Her brow raised as he looked confused about detention. "You don't know what detention is?" she asked. He must never have done a bad thing in his entire school carrier.
"Detention is what you get when the teachers' feel you are doing something wrong or against school rules. What happens is at the end of the day after school is out, you have to go to the detention room. You go in and simply sit there for a hour. Your not allowed to rest your head, not allowed to talk..Some teachers don't even let kids go to the bathroom" she explained to him. "It's not something that's fun at all. It's the worst. So boring and time goes by so slow in that room" she finished explaining. She smirked as he handed her his schedule. Uncrinkling it she looked it over carefully. "Well you've already missed homeroom" she started and then paused "So it looks like we're heading to music. The only part of this place I actually like" she laughed. She handed him back the schedule and turned, starting down the hallway. She stopped and glanced back at him. "Well come on..your already late" she said with a grin as she waited for him.

He smiled laughing softly to himself as she joked. "I'm quite comfortable in my suit; just don't like getting it dirty." He explained, patting his backpack free of the debree. He shook his head when she asked him what detention was. Sure he knew what it meant; but he'd never truly been to detention before. He had only heard false over blown rumors, and so as she explained he listened intently with wide eyes. "That sounds awful." He whispered under his breath clutching his bag softly. "Well...how do you know when a teacher thinks you're doing something wrong?" He gulped hoping he wouldn't get detention the first day of school.
He raised his brow as she laughed about music class putting the schedule back into his pocket he paused for a moment until she called back to him. "Oh Sorry." He laughed uneasily following after her. "Oh boy.." He gulped as she spoke of him being late. He didn't know what the teachers would do here if someone was late to their class he followed after her in a huff. "So you play an instrument? Or maybe sing?" He inquired trying to get why she liked music class so much.

She held back a laugh as he told her his suit was quite comfortable. She shrugged it off and then smiled at him as he said that detention sounded awful. "It's not exactly fun..but it's not as bad as it sounds. You really just sit in a room for an hour. They do let you do work. So if you get homework you can do it in there" she said. She gave him a reassuring smile as she looked at him. "You really don't know. Most teachers here aren't that bad. As long as you don't break any of the school rules you'll be fine" she told him.
She smirked as he caught up to her and they walked down the hall together. "Don't worry. You won't get in trouble this time..just be sure your not late after today" she said. She looked at him and smiled, nodding softly. "Actually I do both. I play guitar and I sing. I also write songs" she said with a proud smile. It was the only thing she had ever wanted to do since she was a little girl was start a band. To be a rockstar and make it big. She sighed softly and then looked at him again. "What about you? I mean you don't take music class for no reason" she asked.

"Ah well still." He shrugged not wanting to get detention what so ever. Although, considering that this was a boarding school it wasn't like one had to go home after school and it was an inconvenience. "I suppose you're right." He nodded to the fact that she had perhaps over exaggerated the idea of detention to him just a bit. He nodded his own meek smile pulling onto his lips as she told him to obey all of the school and class rules. "Oh jeeze." He stopped shortly, pulling out his planner which had all of the school rules written into them he flipped quickly through it his head dropped. "Wow that's a lot of rules to remember not to break." He pondered out loud before realizing he was getting too far behind.
Picking up his pace once more he kept the planner gripped in his hand tightly. He listened to her speak of her music so far with pride in her voice. "Golly, that sure is a lot of stuff you do. You must really like it a lot." He chuckled, matching her pace. "You're your own band." He grinned, popping his lips softly he answered her question nonchalantly. "Well, I play guitar." He shrugged looking through the halls to try and remember where he was.
